Trzydniowiański Wierch stands at 1,758 m above sea level. It is a two-summit peak in the Western Tatras that is often unfairly overlooked in favour of higher neighbours. Unfairly! It is one of the best viewpoints in this part of the mountains.

The name of the summit does not come from the time it takes to get there (it does not take three days!), but from old mining surveys or the names of the owners of the mountain meadows.

Trail description: the “Chochołów loop”

The best way to plan a hike to Trzydniowiański is as a loop starting at the mountain hut on Chochołów Glade.

  1. Approach to the hut: First we must cross Chochołów Valley (about 7 km from the car park). Tip: It is worth covering this section by bike (bike rental at Siwa Polana) or by the “Rakoń” tourist train, to save energy for the real climb.
  2. Ascent (red trail): From the glade, the trail turns into the forest and climbs the ridge of Krowiniec.
    • The ascent is very steep and tiring. We gain height quickly, but that is exactly why we get above the tree line fast.
    • Behind us the views open up towards Grześ, Rakoń and Wołowiec.
  3. Summit: Trzydniowiański Wierch has two summits. The higher one offers a phenomenal panorama. Starorobociański Wierch dominates here - you can see its massive pyramidal silhouette in full. The limestone castle of Kominiarski Wierch also looks great.
  4. Descent (green trail): From the summit we descend to Jarząbcza Valley. It is a scenic, wild and less frequently visited valley. The trail runs along the Jarząbcze Stream, passing old forests, all the way back to Chochołów Glade.

Why is it worth it?

  • Loop: You do not have to return the same way. You climb a scenic ridge and descend through a quiet valley.
  • Training: The trail is technically safe (zero chains), but its steepness is an excellent fitness test before higher mountains.
  • Quiet: There are usually many fewer people on the summit than on nearby Wołowiec or Grześ.

Practical information

  • Logistics (bike): We strongly recommend renting a bike at Siwa Polana. You can ride it almost to the foresters lodge (close to the mountain hut), lock it there and continue on foot. The ride back down the valley after a full day of hiking is pure pleasure.
  • Wind: The summit is exposed and grassy - it is often windy here.
  • Dogs: Remember - with a dog you can only walk along the floor of Chochołów Valley (to the mountain hut). Dogs are not allowed on the red/green trails to Trzydniowiański.

Pytania i odpowiedzi - Questions and answers

Is the trail crowded?

There are usually far fewer people here than on Wołowiec or Grześ. It is a good option for those looking for peace and quiet.

Which way is best to go?

We recommend ascending the red trail (steeper, faster views) and descending the green trail through Jarząbcza Valley (easier on the knees).
