Read the guide in Tips

Wielki Kopieniec (1,328 m a.s.l.) is a knoll above Zakopane from which you can see the Tatras from Osobitá to Havran. It is not high. It is short. That is why half the town stands on it at the weekend.

💡 In a nutshell – Wielki Kopieniec:

  1. For whom: A first summit, a child on foot, a day with afternoon storms.
  2. Start: Toporowa Cyrhla, green trail. TPN booth after 15 minutes.
  3. Pushchair: No. The meadow and summit are a path, not Droga pod Reglami.
  4. Tip: Spring = crocuses on the meadow. August 11:00 = a queue on the stones.

The tiles count Cyrhla there and back. The descent to Jaszczurówka is in the table.

Trail description: Forest, meadow, knoll

Stage 1: Cyrhla and the booth

From the car park red-green across a field and into forest. TPN boundary, ticket booth, Hala Kopieniec junction. Green stays.

Stage 2: Polana Kopieniec

Shepherds’ huts, the view, a place for a sandwich. The summit is 10–15 min higher on stone steps.

Stage 3: The top

High and Western Tatras at once. Giewont, Kasprowy, Świnica, Koszysta. Then either the same way or green down to Polana Olczyska and Jaszczurówka.

Logistics and practical information

  • Parking: Small, paid, gone before 9:00. A city bus to Cyrhla solves it.
  • Ticket: TPN from the booth. Online or in the machine.
  • Dog: Banned. Do not improvise at the gate.
  • Further: From Olczyska you can go to Nosal. That is another card and a steeper path.

Who is this absolutely NOT for?

Not for someone who wants emptiness on an August Sunday. Not with a pushchair “because it is short”. If you want a meadow with a pushchair and Giewont in the frame, take Rusinowa Polana. If you want more steps and the same kind of view — Gęsia Szyja.

What to see

  • Panorama from Osobitá to Havran
  • Polana Kopieniec and huts
  • Crocuses in spring
  • A short first summit

Questions and answers

Is this a good first Tatra summit?

Yes. Short, no chains, a panorama like a higher peak. Nosal is rockier. Gęsia Szyja has more steps.

Can I take a pushchair?

To Polana Kopieniec from Cyrhla — not really. The path is narrow and steep at the end. A child on foot yes, the chair stays behind.

From Cyrhla or from Jaszczurówka?

From Cyrhla it is shortest. The tiles are there and back. Jaszczurówka via Olczyska is in the table as a descent.

Can I bring a dog?

No. TPN from the ticket booth. The stretch to the park gate is not the summit.
