Czerwone Wierchy from Kuźnice

Czerwone Wierchy from Kuźnice is the same ridge as from Kiry, only from the east. You start on blue through Kondratowa and finish with a long descent to Kiry. There are no chains. Fog and fitness remain.

The tiles and map are the whole traverse: 15.4 km, 7 h 56 min, 1,337 m up.

Trail description

Start in Kuźnice. You will not drive the same car to Kiry — minibuses run between the ends.

1. Kuźnice – Hala Kondratowa (blue, about 1 h 35 min): Kalatówki, the Albertine convent, a stony road. A gentler start than Ciemniak from Kiry.
2. Kondratowa – the pass below Kopa (green, about 1 h 30 min): Steep, no chains. In winter this section can be avalanche-prone.
3. Kopa Kondracka and the ridge west (red): Kopa, Małołączniak, Krzesanica (2,122 m, cliff edge), Ciemniak. A grassy promenade, no chains, no spring. Kobylarzowy Żleb is not on this map — that is a Małołączniak variant.
4. Ciemniak – Kiry (red, about 3 h 25 min from the summit): Chuda Przełączka, Zahradziska, Cudakowa Polana, Kiry. At the end of the day the descent is long. The knees get more than they did starting from Kiry.

Difficulty

Technically easy. Long on fitness. 1,337 m of ascent is not “a stroll from Kuźnice to Kopa and a coffee”. If someone in the group is already sitting down at Kondratowa, you are not going for four 2,000 m peaks.

Safety

• Fog: The domes are flat. Leaving the trail at Krzesanica ends on a cliff, not a meadow.
• Storms: The ridge is a lightning target. You descend into any valley; you do not wait for it to “pass over Kopa”.
• Water: There is no spring on the ridge. The Kondratowa hut is behind you once you are on Kopa.

Parking and logistics

Car under the ski jump or at John Paul II Roundabout. Bus to Kuźnice. From Kiry a bus back to Zakopane. TPN ticket in Kuźnice. No dogs.

The reverse, Kiry → Kuźnice, has a bus at Kuźnice at the finish and the longest climb at the start. You choose whether you want heavy legs in the morning or in the evening.

7 h 56 min is walking time. If storms are due at 14:00 and you are still waiting for a bus in Kuźnice at 9:00, switch to Kopa Kondracka.

Who this is not for

Not in fog without GPS and the poles. Not with someone you have to drag through Kalatówki. Not with children “because four 2,000 m peaks look good in a photo”. Not as a warm-up before chains — there are none here, there is length.
